Report a food safety issue

We investigate food safety issues in the Caerphilly county borough. These include food premises and food complaints. If your complaint is about a food establishment outside of Caerphilly county borough, please contact the relevant local authority.

Before you report the issue to us, it may worth spending some time reading our guidance documents common food complaints and use by and best before dates explained.

The laboratory is unable to test foods related to suspected food poisonings unless the food is sampled directly from the food business by a qualified officer.

COVID-19 - Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak the Food and Health and Safety Team has reduced it’s services to be able to react to the current situation.  The reduction in service will mean that complaints/request for service will be triaged and only those we consider to be a public health risk will be actioned.

Alternatively, contact us by telephone or email.

When making your complaint you should:

  • Retain the uneaten suspect food and foreign object in a covered container. If the food is perishable or is affected by mould place it in a freezer or refrigerator until we can collect it to help delay any further deterioration.
  • Retain any packaging you may have, as this will provide important information such as use-by dates and batch codes, which will be needed for the investigation.
  • Where possible, retain any receipts of purchase
