Rough sleepers

If you find yourself rough sleeping or have contact with a rough sleeper, then please call our Housing Advice Team; Monday – Thursday 8:30am- 17:00pm, Friday 8:30am- 16:30pm on 01443 873552. Outside of these times and on weekends/bank holidays please contact the out of hours service on 01443 875500. The out of hours team will then contact the on call out of hours Housing Advice Office who will then make contact with the person requesting assistance.

We would advise that if you are reporting someone who is rough sleeping but you do not have their name and a contact number, the team will need to be given the persons last known location where they were observed as rough sleeping.  Cornerstone, our commissioned Rough Sleeper Outreach support team, can then arrange to go out and engage with the person and liaise back with our homelessness team.

The team will then look at what options are available for that person to access housing in periods of inclement weather.

As part of the service that is commissioned through Cornerstone outreach service, there is access to food and warm clothing in periods of cold inclement weather and in periods of extreme heat then access to water, suncream and cool clothing can also be made available.

In addition, support is offered to access any additional services that maybe required and to assist with any access to financial support via the DWP etc.

There are many reasons why people sleep rough, so we ask members of the public to respect their privacy and to refrain from posting on social media, as this can unintentionally expose them or others to risk.
