FindMyStreet

National Street Gazetteer for England and Wales

FindMyStreet shows every street in England and Wales that's held in the National Street Gazetteer. It will tell you where a street is, what its official name is, and the maintenance responsibility of that street. The data is created and maintained by local authorities, collected, and managed centrally by GeoPlace.

Caerphilly County Borough Council does not provide definitive plans as they are not available from our systems, we can only supply centre lines, that are already available on FindMyStreet.

If you require any further information regarding the adoption extents of a street, or further advice, then this can be obtained by paying a fee of £30 prior emailing highwayadoptionquery@caerphilly.gov.uk. You can pay this fee by calling Customer Care on 01443 866570, quoting code 3500 / T358 with your request details and the receipt number of your payment.

Further information on registered footpaths can be found on the dedicated website, which takes you to the definitive map. Please note, that this is subject to change.

What is the National Street Gazetteer (NSG)?

This is a list of the names, locations and an indication of maintenance responsibility for all streets within the National Street Gazetteer – listed by local highway authority.

This list should only be used as an indication of whether a street is publicly maintainable or not. Full detail and extent of maintenance responsibility should be obtained from the relevant local highway authority via Local Land Charge searches (con29), which is rechargeable at source.

Answers to most queries can be found on the FAQ page.

Maintained at public expense

As a Highway Authority, we have a duty to maintain adopted highways to safe and serviceable standards, these adopted Highways are maintained at public expense. Under this adopted status, our staff must protect the rights of the public to use and enjoy such highways by making sure they are free from nuisance, danger, obstructions, unlawful stopping up, interference and encroachments.

Not maintained at public expense

A 'private street' is a street that is not maintained at public expense. This means that as a highway authority, we are under no obligation to carry out repairs or cleansing to the street, even though it could be a public right of way where highway and traffic law can be applied. Private roads are roads where no public right of way exists. Residents are solely responsible for any repairs. You can check HM Land Registry for details of property ownership throughout the UK.
