Unstable fences, walls, barriers and other street furniture next to the public highway can present risks to the safety of highway users.
Such items include:
- Most illuminated and non-illuminated signs and bollards
- Traffic signals and variable message signs
- Highway fencing
- Crash barriers
- Walls (but not privately owned)
- Barriers
- Litter bins
- Benches
- Bus shelters
It can also refer to decorative items such as ornate street lighting, hanging baskets and planted troughs.
