Housing options

Our aim is to promote independence and maximise people's potential by providing long and short-term accommodation in a variety of settings. We also support those that choose to live in their own homes.

Assessing your needs

These services are only available following an assessment of need. This is a discussion with you to find out how best to support you with the problems you are having. We will look at your needs and decide whether you are eligible for services including attending one of our day centres.

For further details or to complete a needs assessment visit our How to get help and support page.

Respite accommodation

Respite accommodation aims to provide quality short-term accommodation services to people with a learning disability.

Working in partnership with their carers, this service responds flexibly to their needs, enabling them to make informed choices and where possible to lead an independent life.

The council owns two residential short break establishments that offer respite accommodation in family homes under the Adult Placement Scheme:

  • Montclaire is a residential establishment that has 5 bedrooms and is located in the Blackwood area

  • Ty Gwilym is a residential establishment that has 4 bedrooms and is located in the Caerphilly area

Both Montclaire and Ty Gwilym are registered with Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales under the Registered Homes Act for younger adults.

Long term residential accommodation

Long term residential accommodation aims to provide people with a learning disability high quality services. There is currently one council owned establishment within the county borough.

Supported living schemes

Supported living schemes aims to provide the support required to enable people with learning disabilities to live in small community houses and to maintain their tenancies.

Accommodation services currently offer support to 7 supported living schemes in the county borough. The number of occupants for each scheme is between two and four tenants. The scheme became registered as a Domiciliary Care Agency with the Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales under the Domiciliary Care Regulations in June 2004.
