Shringrig Road Bridge - update

Shringrig Road Bridge carries the B4255 Shringrig Road over the mineral railway line to the north of Nelson.  The bridge is owned / maintained by Transport for Wales (TfW).

The boundary of Caerphilly County Borough Council (CCBC) ends south of this Railway Bridge, with the structure itself being wholly within Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council (MTCBC).

In the short term the following load mitigations have been imposed while investigations continue:

  • Not imposing an immediate weight restriction, but limiting the traffic travelling across the bridge to single file only, across the centre of the bridge, with the use of two-way temporary traffic lights.
  • Preventing any abnormal load vehicles travelling across the bridge with immediate effect.

Temporary traffic lights have therefore been installed by MTCBC to facilitate the above load mitigation measures.  We will endeavour to keep you informed of developments with respect to this bridge.
