Primary School Meals
We are dedicated to investing significant time, effort, and resources in the development and promotion of nutritious menus for school children. Our primary goal is to ensure that each child has the opportunity to enjoy a well-balanced and wholesome meal every day, coupled with the chance to explore new and exciting culinary experiences.
Primary School Menu - Autumn term 2024
Please see the below timetable which shows the week number menu being used on each week of the 2024/2025 school year.
How much?
From September 2023, all pupils in primary school will be eligible for a free meal. Please note this does not include part -time nursery pupils who are able to have a meal at a cost.
Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM)
Thanks to Welsh Government funding, councils across Wales are extending the availability of free school meals.
The aim of Caerphilly is that every primary school pupil will be able to have a free school meal by September 2023, well ahead of the Welsh Government target of September 2024.
We are expecting to complete the phased implementation by the end of August 2023 (subject to change depending on any unforeseen circumstances that may arise).
School pupils in Full-time Nursery up to Year 2 are already enjoying universal free school meals. The final phase of the roll out will see years 3 to 6 start to receive these in September.
Universal Primary Free School Meals FAQs
How do I apply?
If you are on means tested benefits, you can complete the form which means you will also become eligible for the uniform grant.
If you are not in receipt of a means tested benefit, there is no need to apply for the school meals. Your child will need to let the teacher know that they are planning to have school dinners during registration. Currently children in Full-time Nursery up to Year 2 will receive the meal free of charge, it is not means tested and is available to all.
In September, the free meals roll out will also include year 3 to 6, the same applies, just ask at the school to receive the meals.
