Blackwood is easily accessible by bus and car, with parking available in a number of convenient locations across the town centre. Blackwood offers excellent connectivity to major transport routes, located just 25 minutes from the M4 and with easy access to the A465 Heads of the Valley Road and the A40/M50 routes to the West Midlands. This former mining town is steeped in Chartist history and offers a wide range of independent retailers interspersed with familiar household names. The town centre is also home to the iconic Blackwood Miners Institute, together with the popular independent Maxime Cinema, Blackwood Little Theatre and the Studio 54 performing arts group. The Market Place located in the centre of town hosts an outdoor market every Tuesday and Friday, offering a wide selection of goods from local traders. Blackwood Gate Retail Park and Blackwood Retail Park are also located on the outskirts of the town centre, hosting a range of national retailers, supermarkets and food outlets, with many of these stores offering late-night shopping opportunities.
Blackwood Town Council actively supports many of the town's initiatives, together with CCBC’s programme of events held across the town centre throughout the year, including the Blackwood Beach Party and Blackwood Spring and Winter Fairs.
Details of the Council’s events programme can be found on the Visit Caerphilly website.
The surrounding area offers a number of recreational and leisure activities, including swimming pools and fitness classes at Cefn Fforest Leisure Centre and Newbridge Leisure Centre and outdoor activities at Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre. Free Wi-Fi has recently been rolled out across the town centre, with visitors able to connect via the ‘FreeCCBCWifi’ network.
