Choose Caerphilly

As the largest town in the Borough with the second largest fortress in Europe, Caerphilly town centre showcases itself as a destination with lots to offer, being only eight miles from the Welsh capital and on the doorstep of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

With three local train stations (Caerphilly, Aber, and Energlyn & Churchill Park) that provide a service to Cardiff in just fifteen minutes and Newport in fifty minutes, and road links that connect with the M4, Caerphilly is well situated for visitors and commuters alike. From the station, bus operators provide a comprehensive service throughout the Borough and beyond and there are several car parking options available within the town.

Flanking two sides of Caerphilly Castle, the sizeable high street, including Castle Court Shopping Centre, is a mix of independent and chain businesses that occupy the mix of modern and historical buildings that reflect the towns character. Centrally located, the town benefits from a multi-million pound library, Twyn Community Centre and Caerphilly Working Men’s Hall, who stage entertaining performances by local and touring productions. Popular food, craft and artisan markets are regularly held along the high street and the town has a lively calendar of events, festivals and fairs. Details of the Council’s events programme can be found on the Visit Caerphilly website.

Caerphilly Castle creates an impressive background for those living and working in the town and Cadw’s £5 million investment is continuing to develop this iconic landmark. The castle grounds, Morgan Jones Park and Dafydd Williams Gardens offer recreational space in the centre whilst bordering the town, Caerphilly Mountain and Caerphilly Common provide spectacular views across the Borough. The town prides itself as gold award winner of the prestigious Wales in Bloom and, £33 million of Welsh Government and Caerphilly Council funding is being put towards the construction of a new, state of the art wellbeing centre. The new facility, which will be constructed close to key public transport facilities adjacent to Caerphilly Business Park, will become the flagship leisure and wellbeing hub for the whole county borough.

Exciting plans have been unveiled for a bustling new market development that will incorporate new commercial and retail units, meanwhile space and an external events venue.

Funding has also been secured for Caerphilly as part of the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Placemaking programme, which will be allocated towards making improvements to public spaces within the town.
