Recycling in schools

We provide schools with a number of opportunities to recycle:

Batteries recycling initiative

We run the battery recycling initiative every year in partnership with European Recycling Platform (ERP).

We ask pupils to bring used household batteries into school for recycling. All participating schools compete with other schools in the Borough to win exciting prizes at a special award ceremony at the end of the school year.

If your schools would like to take part, please contact us for a registration form.

Eco Schools

The Eco Schools Programme is a Europe wide project designed to encourage environmental education and action.

The Eco Schools Award Scheme is a straightforward and flexible way for schools to extend environmental lessons outside the classroom and apply them to the day-to-day running of the school. It involves all members of the school community, including pupils, staff and governors working together to develop plans, set and achieve realistic targets and establish an eco code.

There are several themes: litter, water, energy, transport, school grounds, healthy living, waste minimisation and recovery and global citizenship. There are three levels of awards, the bronze award, the silver award and the prestigious green flag.

All schools in Caerphilly county borough have now signed up to the eco schools programme.

For more information about the Eco Schools Programme contact the Sustainable Development Officer on 01495 235141 or email sustainabledevelopment@caerphilly.gov.uk.
