Caerphilly’s Food Festival Breaks Footfall Records
Posted on : 12 May 2022
Nearly 14,000 visited Caerphilly Town Centre last weekend for the town’s first Food Festival since 2019.
The town’s annual Food Festival has been cancelled for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however was a huge success on its first year back.
Saturday 7th May saw Caerphilly Town Centre transformed into a marketplace bursting with an array of culinary delights including 70 food and craft stalls and cookery demonstrations.
Street entertainers also roamed the festival throughout the day to keep everyone amused and there were also a small selection of children’s funfair rides to keep the little ones entertained.
The event resulted in an influx of visitors to Caerphilly Town Centre, with this years’ festival receiving highest footfall numbers on record and an additional 12,361 visitors compared to the previous Saturday.
The festival offered the perfect opportunity for visitors to shop locally, with Caerphilly Town Centre having a selection of independent stores with some quirky gift ideas; there are also a number of high street stores and some great eating out venues.
A local business said: “Here at Aviary we hit a personal best in sales! Which was a huge achievement for us because since opening in August 2020 we have been hit with obstacle after obstacle. I hope Caerphilly Council are planning to organise more events like the food festival in future.
“It was lovely to see our town centre full of life and laughter from local residents and people from afar. It was great for all local businesses!”
Café and Bistro, The Gatehouse added: “For us the food festival was fantastic. It was lovely to see so many people outside on such a lovely vibrant sunny day. As a business we benefitted hugely from it and as a result had our most profitable Saturday since opening a year ago.”
A third said: “Ten Degrees Bar & Restaurant is lucky to be situated right in the centre of Caerphilly, a stone's throw from the Food Festival and as direct result of all the extra visitors to the town and with thanks to our fantastic team members Alan and Sam who were out and about promoting and meeting visitors with food samples, we found ourselves fully booked out for whole afternoon.
“Thank you to everyone who helped organise the festival, it really gave us a boost and extra publicity, we look forward to getting involved with more events in the future.”
