Schools Celebrate Success at South Wales Argus School and Education Awards 2024

Three Caerphilly County Borough schools and their teaching staff are feeling proud today after winning awards at the South Wales Argus Schools and Education Awards 2024 on Wednesday 26th June.

Libanus Primary School in Blackwood won the STEM Project of the Year, and teacher Lynne Richards scooped the Above and Beyond Award.

Richard Owen. Idris Davies 3 to 18 School was named Headteacher of the Year and Newbridge School won the Secondary School of the Year Award.

Nicola Williams. Headteacher at Libanus Primary School said,

“We are thrilled that the great work we do here at Libanus Primary has been recognised again this year. To have been nominated for four awards and winning two has made our whole school community very proud.

Our deputy headteacher, Mrs Richards is thrilled to have been recognised as going above and beyond with the curriculum and enrichment work that she does.

The recent Trashion Show that our Y5/6 pupils and teachers planned and took part in was watched by the whole school, parents and governors and taught us all about the problems associated with fast fashion. The children recycled old clothes and materials to make their Trashion outfits and strutted their stuff on the catwalk whilst teaching us important environmental messages. It was amazing!  “

Mr Andew Thompson, Headteacher at Newbridge School said,

“We are thrilled to receive this award. Our staff work tirelessly to ensure all our pupils achieve at the highest standards possible whilst always receiving the best care and support, and we feel this award reflects that dedication and commitment. The Newbridge School community is an exceptional one and I know that everyone involved with the school will be very proud that this has been recognised.”

A spokesperson for Idris Davis 3 to18 School said,

“As a school community we are very proud and delighted that Mr Owen has been recognised with this award and it is truly well deserved. Mr Owen and the excellent team of staff at our school work tirelessly to support all of our learners on a daily basis to give every pupil, every possible opportunity everyday across their time with us in school and this award is very much a tribute to the difference the entire team makes to the lives of our pupils.

Mr Owen s said ‘Being the Headteacher of Idris Davies School 3 to 18 is an absolute privilege and I consider myself to by extremely lucky to work and lead such dedicated and talented team of staff who go over and above to support the needs of our pupils on a daily basis. I am extremely grateful and humbled to be in receipt of this award, but it has only been made possible by the fantastic team of staff at IDS and the wider cluster we work with and the support and guidance we receive from the LA’.  “

Congratulations also to Lynn Griffiths of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerffili, Jamie Hallett of Ysgol Gymraeg Gilfach Fargod, Lianne Francis of Bedwas High School, Hannah Hodges, Abercarn Primary School, Emilie Thornton, Libanus Primary School for being shortlisted.
