Pupils of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Y Castell receive a festive surprise!
Children at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Y Castell were surprised with a festive gift from construction company Lancer Scott. The principal contractor for the much-anticipated Ffos Caerffili development, which is due to open in the new year, invited children of the school to be involved in a community engagement activity.

The community engagement activity included working with Menter Caerffili, and involved children attending the summer holiday club to unleash their creativity by sketching imaginative drawings of the development that featured on the hoardings of the site on Cardiff Road.

As a token of appreciation to the talented young artists, pupils of the school were presented with custom advent calendars, featuring the designs that they had created, as a gift for their hard work on the project. The calendars were presented by Adam Bidhendy and Jonathan Armitage (Lancer Scott) alongside Maria Macdonald and Nerys Griffith-Brown (Menter Caerfilli).

Councillor Jamie Pritchard, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration and Climate Change, commented:

“The custom advent calendars were a lovely gesture from Lancer Scott to reward the efforts of the pupils at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Y Castell.

“The designs the children created look great on the hoardings of the site and the excitement in the town centre is beginning to rise as we anticipate the opening of Ffos Caerffili in the new year.

“My thanks go out to both Lancer Scott and Menter Caerffili for their work on this.”

Lancer Scott, commented:
“The local community are at the heart of Ffos Caerfilli market scheme, so it was important for to us to engage with them during the construction process. We are proud to be a part of this development and would like to thank the pupils of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Y Castell for their amazing artwork and the staff for making it possible.”

Ffos Caerffili will be an exciting and vibrant focal point within the town that celebrates the spirit of small businesses and local traders. Built from cargo containers, Ffos Caerffili will be a fresh, modern, multifunctional space; home to a mix of twenty-eight food and beverage traders, independent shops and workspaces.

The Ffos Caerffili market development is an integral part of the ambitious ‘Caerphilly Town 2035’ placemaking plan - a partnership between Caerphilly County Borough Council and Welsh Government.
