Caerphilly County Borough Council to reintroduce Van and Trailer Permits for use of its Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Posted on : 28 Feb 2022
Vehicles that require a permit will once again be able to access all Caerphilly County Borough Council Household Waste Recycling Centres, subject to a tipping permit being provided.
The Tipping Permit system was first introduced by the Borough in 2014, however operations stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The vans and trailer permit system will be reintroduced from 28th February 2022.
Household Waste and Recycling Centres can only be used by residents of Caerphilly County Borough, therefore when obtaining a permit, applicants will need to provide proof of residency (photocard driving licence, utility bill, council tax bill or DWP letter) and the vehicle registration document (V5).
Anyone wishing to use a works van will need to provide written confirmation from their employer that the van can be used for personal use. To use the sites with a hired vehicle you must also provide the hire agreement when requesting the permit.
Permits will be available through face-to-face appointments at Ty Penallta only, where a physical permit will be provided immediately or, for the first time, online, where a PDF of the permit will be emailed to the resident to same working day.
Permits need to be obtained at least 24 hours in advance of using it but no more than two weeks in advance. Permit requests submitted over the weekend will be processed the next working day.
Each permit is single use and paper copies must be handed in at the site, however residents can apply for up to six free van permits in a 12-month period. The six permits apply to both the address and the vehicle.
Residents are encouraged to sort their waste in advance of their visit to limit the time on site and maximise recycling.
Councillor Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Waste, Public Protection & Street Scene says: “We are very happy to be able to offer this service to our residents again. We know this has been a turbulent two years but are pleased to see operations returning to normal.”
