Caerphilly County Borough put young people’s views at forefront of new Youth Centre development
Posted on : 19 Jan 2023
Caerphilly County Borough Youth Service has completed a survey seeking the views of young people within the borough in preparation for the opening of a new Youth Centre.
Virginia Park Youth Centre is set to open later this year, in Virginia Park, Caerphilly. The centre will be open to all young people aged 11-25, offering youth club activities and school holiday sessions.
Specialised support and groups such as LGBTQ+, support for young people to get into work and college, information and support, hot topic workshops, and homelessness support will also be available, as well as access period dignity products and C Card resources.
Prior to the opening of the Youth Centre, 206 young people responded to a survey that aimed to gain open and honest opinions about how the new centre should be run and the types of activities that should be on offer. This ensures that young people’s views contribute to key decisions about Youth Service provision.
The survey also revealed an interest from young people in being directly involved in shaping the centre and the delivery of youth work in the area – all the survey respondents are to be invited to be directly involved on a regular basis.
Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Jamie Pritchard said: “I'd like to thank all the Caerphilly Youth Service for initiating this survey and to all the young people for taking part. The new facility will offer new opportunities for youth provision in Caerphilly. It’s an exciting development".
