Ty’n y Wern Primary School collect 12th Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative award
Posted on : 20 Jul 2022
Ty’n y Wern Primary School have collected their 12
th
Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative award at their recent award ceremony event, held this year at the Museum of Welsh Life, St Fagans.
The school’s spring term humanities topic ‘Taith Trwy Trethomas’ saw each class researching the history of certain buildings in and around the locality. Their findings were used to produce the new and exciting walking trail – The TTT.
Each landmark or building displays a sign which has a short description and a QR code. Whilst at the location, walkers can scan the QR code to find out more about the history of the building as well as being informed of how many steps you have taken at that point in the journey.
The judges commented that, “The pupils demonstrated an in-depth knowledge, really enjoyed discovering about their local area and were passionate about sharing the project with the wider community”.
The project saw the school receive prize money in excess of £1000.
Cllr Carol Andrews, Cabinet Member for Education said, “Congratulations to pupils and staff of Ty’n y Wern Primary! This fantastic trail is extremely worthy of the prestigious Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative award. You should all be very proud of your achievements.
“I would encourage residents to walk the trail if you haven’t already done so and hope that the local community can enjoy it for many years to come.”
The trail is still available for the community to enjoy, maps are available from the school and local shops.
