Reconnect with nature

Caerphilly County Borough Council are offering FREE Plant a Patch for Pollinators’ packs to residents, businesses and schools to help them connect with nature by growing a wildflower patch.

Growing a wildflower patch in your garden is a great way to attract wildlife and will provide a beautiful display of native wildflowers and doesn’t necessarily need much space. Residents can create a patch in the garden or even in a pot on your patio.

Honeybees and wild pollinators including bumblebees, solitary bees, wasps, hoverflies, butterflies, moths, and some beetles are important pollinators.

The packs will include native wild-flower seeds, a sowing and aftercare guidance sheet, pollinator identification sheets and a local record centre recording sheet.

After you receive your pack we would like you to; provide us with photos before, during and after, as well as updates on what your patch has attracted and how your patch is growing, record species within your pollinator patch and garden, and share your encounters with nature with us.

This can be done by either emailing countryside@caerphilly.gov.uk or via Twitter @CaerphillyCBC. Don’t forget to Tag us and use #CaerphillyPlantAPatch. Alternatively, if you prefer you can DM your photos to Caerphilly County Borough Council or tag us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/CaerphillyCBC

The packs will be allocated on a first come first served per ward basis, to ensure a fair distribution across the Caerphilly County Borough. You must currently be a resident living within Caerphilly County Borough to apply and you can request a pack of seed for a minimum area of 1m² or a maximum area of 10m². Only one pack is permitted per household.

Closing date for registering is 21st July 2023.
