Contacting your police force has never been easier

Did you know you there are now various ways to contact your local police force, and specially trained staff are there to help as soon as you get in touch.

Every month Gwent Police is contacted by the public nearly 35,000 times; this can be through a variety of means including 999 calls, 101 calls, e-mail, and social media as John Davies, the Superintendent who runs the Force Contact Centre, explains:

“As the digital world has developed so has policing, we’re making sure we can be contacted in the ways people are now communicating and the way they would prefer to do so 24/7. It’s easy, quick and simple – we are where you are, online.

“We saw our highest demand last year in July and August and as these months approach, we’re keen to ensure people know the various ways they can contact us, and of course use the 999 service correctly. I’d ask people to think carefully before they dial, ask yourself: is this a real emergency? We need to keep the lines clear for those who really need them.”

“As soon as an operator answers those calls they’re finding out how they can help you, the caller, and keep you safe.”

Call 999 if:

  • a serious offence is in progress or has just been committed
  • someone is in immediate danger or harm
  • property is in danger of being damaged
  • a serious disruption to the public is likely

For non-emergencies such as anti-social behaviour or theft, to make a report or request information you can:
