Developers announced for school build
Posted on : 14 Jun 2022
Developers Andrew Scott Ltd announced to take forward the 21st Century School development for Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Gwyddon.
The vacant Cwmcarn High School site will see the construction of a state-of-the-art school development to host Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Gwyddon in September 2023.
Contractors Andrew Scott Ltd will break ground in the coming months to create the modern facility to host up to 420 pupils. The site will boast modern and light teaching spaces, improved vehicle and pedestrian access and extensive outdoor learning and play space for the school and wider community.
Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr. Carol Andrews said “We have a proven track record of raising the standards of our schools and improving the quality of the learning environment to create fit-for-purpose 21st century schools for all children. This development is another step forward in that journey by expanding our Welsh Medium provision for the Cwm Gwyddon family and increase our provision for childcare and spaces for children with additional needs on the site to enhance the educational services offered to children and their families.”
Acting Head Teacher Helen Marsh said, “This is a really exciting time for us as a school community, everyone has been involved in the process so far and we are really enthused to continue to play a vital role in the development. We are rapidly growing as a school and I am sure we can continue to maintain the excellent standard of education we have established in the new space and continue to grow and thrive.”
Mark Bowen, Managing Director, Andrew Scott Ltd said “We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to deliver this exciting project for Caerphilly County Borough Council and look forward to working with authority and the Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Gwyddon family to create a positive learning environment at the heart of the community. We are committed to delivering a positive legacy as a result of this project through a series of sustainable employment, training and community initiatives that benefit current and future generations.”
The 21st Century Schools programme is a collaboration between the Welsh Government and Local Councils in Wales. It is a significant, long-term and strategic capital investment programme with the aim of creating a generation of 21st Century Schools in Wales.
