Prominent Caerphilly town centre street redevelopment approved as part of Caerphilly 2035 plan
Redevelopment plans for Caerphilly’s Pentrebane Street have been approved as part of Caerphilly 2035’s ambitious regeneration plan to transform Caerphilly town centre. The Pentrebane Street regeneration project has been made possible thanks to Caerphilly County Borough Council and support from the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme.

The dilapidated nature of the buildings, which have resulted in reduced footfall to this part of the town centre and negatively impacted existing businesses, will be significantly improved to create an exciting mixed-use development that will be a flagship scheme for Caerphilly Town Centre.

Councillor James Pritchard, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration and Climate Change for Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “The proposed redevelopment will be an exemplar case study for future town centre developments and will help attract further investment for Caerphilly. For a number of years, residents have talked about the need to re-develop the top end of town, so this is very much what we’re planning to do. We hope the plans approved today will clearly indicate our ongoing commitment to transforming the town centre and stimulating economic growth. With Ffos Caerffili also taking huge strides forward, the Caerphilly 2035 plan is coming to fruition.”

Linc Cymru aims to build 73 apartments, a mix of social rent and market rent, and seven new commercial units to attract a variety of businesses. The development will transform the area in and around Pentrebane Street with three new buildings and new public spaces for visitors and residents to enjoy.

Siân Diaz, Development Director from Linc Cymru, said: “Projects like this are only successful when all partners are working together towards the same vision. Over the last few years, we have built a strong relationship with the council and with the support of funding from Welsh Government, we will ensure that the benefits from this development match the aims of the Caerphilly 2035 Masterplan.

“This decision by the council will lead to the transformation of this part of Caerphilly town centre.  All of these features are going to bring a new vibrant feel to the area and give visitors another reason to come to Caerphilly.”

 “The artist’s impressions are inspirational and show the confidence that we and our partners have in helping the town to thrive in the future.”

 “The last few years have seen big changes for many people in how and where they work. A co-working space on this site will provide more benefits and attract people to work and enjoy the surrounding shops, bars and restaurants.”

Pentrebane Street plans are set to;
  • Include new commercial opportunities at street level that will attract creative businesses.
  • Offer high-density, social rent, private rent, and market sale apartments.
  • Promote the integration of work, home, shopping, transportation, and public space in Caerphilly.
  • Meet the aspirations and needs of the local community and future generations.
  • Reduce energy usage and lower the overall carbon footprint to provide new homes that will be Net Zero Carbon and EPC A rated.
  • Ensure the landscape will integrate sustainable drainage systems that will manage surface water run-off, enhance biodiversity, and help to generate a high-quality amenity space for residents and the public.
