Make sure you’re registered to vote for the upcoming General Election

Caerphilly County Borough Council is urging residents to make sure they are registered to vote for the general election.
On Thursday 4
th
July, voters will go to the polls to elect their Member of Parliament (MP).
If you are not on the Electoral Register, you will not be able to vote. The deadline to register to vote is 23:59 on Tuesday 18 June. You can apply online in five minutes:
https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
If you are unable to cast your vote at a polling station on Thursday 4 July, you can
apply for a postal vote
. Voting by post is a convenient alternative to voting in person.
Proxy voting allows you to nominate someone else to cast your vote for you. The deadline to
apply to vote by proxy
is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.
If you are intending to vote in a poling station, you must bring photo ID with you, otherwise you will not be able to vote. A list of accepted forms of ID is available on the
Electoral Commission’s Website
. If you do not have any eligible photo ID, please apply for a free,
Voter Authority Certificate
by 5pm on Wednesday 26
th
June.
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 4 July. Polling cards will be sent to everyone who is eligible to vote. The poll card will give details of your polling station.

Friday 7 June: Publication of persons nominated.
Tuesday 18 June: Deadline to register to vote.
Wednesday 19 June: Deadline for new postal vote applications or to change/cancel an existing postal or proxy appointment.
Wednesday 26 June: Deadline for proxy vote applications.
Wednesday 26 June: Deadline for Free Voter ID.
Thursday 4 July: General Election.
