Caerphilly Council begins sending new occupation contracts
Caerphilly County Borough Council has begun sending out occupation contracts to anyone who has held their tenancy with Caerphilly Homes prior to the implementation of the Renting Homes (Wales) Act on 1 December 2022.

Contract holders (tenants) do not need to do anything as their tenancy was automatically replaced by the occupation contract when the Act was implemented.  Copies are being sent for contract holders’ to keep, along with a leaflet outlining key information.

Contracts are being sent in batches, so not all households will receive them at the same time, with the final contracts expected to be sent by the end of April.

Cllr Shayne Cook, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said “The Renting Homes (Wales) Act is the biggest ever change to housing legislation in Wales.  We understand that the occupation contracts may appear to be lengthy and complex, but it is a legal requirement and sets out the responsibility of contract holders and us as landlord.”

Council contract holders who would prefer the document in a different language or format, or who have queries about the changes can contact their local housing office on 01443 873535 or email rentinghomes@caerphilly.gov.uk.  They can also text the word ‘contract’ to 07919 627530 and the Council will return the call.
