Fochriw Primary School Honoured with The Daily Mile Children’s Fit for Life Award
Fochriw Primary School in Caerphilly has been recognised with The Daily Mile Children’s Fit for Life Award, celebrating the school’s dedication to promoting physical activity among its students. The award was presented by Welsh cycling star Luke Rowe, who made a special visit to the school to mark the occasion.

The school joined The Daily Mile initiative in 2016, encouraging its pupils to run, walk, or wheel for 15 minutes during the school day. This commitment has made a significant impact on the children’s physical health and well-being, fostering a culture of regular exercise in a fun and inclusive way.

During his visit, Luke Rowe joined the students in completing their Daily Mile, inspiring them with his experience as an athlete and sharing the importance of staying active. The event served as a reminder of how simple, consistent physical activities can create lifelong healthy habits.

Councillor Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, praised the school’s achievement: “Fochriw Primary School has shown incredible dedication to ensuring that physical activity is a part of daily life for its pupils. Initiatives like The Daily Mile are vital in encouraging children to lead healthier lifestyles, and it’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm and commitment from both the students and staff.”

The Daily Mile initiative, supported by INEOS, was established in 2012 and has since become a global movement aimed at improving children’s health and fitness. Fochriw Primary School’s recognition with the Children’s Fit for Life Award is a testament to the school’s ongoing efforts to make exercise a fun and integral part of the school day.
