Great Success for Blackwood Town Centre’s First Ever Spring Fair

Caerphilly County Borough Council's first event of the year took place in Blackwood Town Centre last weekend, Saturday 4th March.

Blackwood welcomed an exceptional 8,058 visitors with 1,197 being the peak attendance at midday. It was the busiest day of the year so far, with 3,160 more visitors in the town compared to the previous Saturday.

There was a whole host of food and craft stalls, a funfair, and plenty of activities and street performances, which kept everyone entertained! It was a great start to the year; the town centre, retailers, and the community were hugely benefitted.

Hear what local businesses and councillors thought about the event:

Sarah, Darren and Sharon from Woodies, said “Lots of smiling happy faces all day long. Best street fair we’ve ever seen, there were more market stalls. Very well organised. Really positive event. Blackwood was kept spotless throughout the day and lots to do for the kids too!”

Huw Edwards and Emma Zac-Price, of Tidal’s Stores Ltd, said “The Spring Fair was great! The Yellow and green stalls were smart and eye-catching. There was great community spirit and we felt really involved. It is a good way to boost Blackwood’s profile, roll on the Summer event!”

Shirley, of McKenzie’s Café Bar, commented “Incredibly busy day, probably the busiest day since we’ve opened!”

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration & Climate Change, said "Blackwood was bouncing and full of activity. The events programme drives footfall in our towns, and this is a key priority. Getting people back to the towns to support local businesses."

We are hosting another Spring Fair in Ystrad Mynach Town Centre on Saturday 25th March. Come along for a fun-filled family day out!
