Santa seen delivering £500 cheque to food waste recycler in Caerphilly
Santa has been spotted delivering a £500 cheque to a food waste recycler in Caerphilly County Borough.

Clare Burton from Aberbargoed has been announced as the eighth winner of Caerphilly County Borough’s Mash for Cash campaign, which sees one lucky food waste recycler chosen at random each month to win £500 cash, and was presented with a cheque by the CCBC Waste and Recycling team, one of whom was dressed for the occasion.

The Mash for Cash campaign was launched in March 2022 with an aim to increase the number of residents currently recycling their food waste, whilst the prize money could help residents during the current cost of living crisis.

Ms Burton said: “I have recycled my food waste for as long as I can remember. It just makes sense for me – I have a little caddy in the kitchen that I can put food directly into and then empty each night. The food wood doesn’t build up like it would in the big bin so it’s much more hygienic.

”It was amazing to learn I had won, the money couldn’t have come at a better time.”

Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure & Green spaces added: “I would like to congratulate to Ms Burton on her winnings and a say a big thank you to the CCBC Waste and Recycling team for their commitment to this initiative and to keeping our borough clean through their work every day.

“With the festive season approaching, we know that finances will be on everyone’s mind, so I am thrilled to see another happy winner of our Mash for Cash campaign, and to see public funding being redistributed back into the community in this way.”

The Mash for Cash winners will continue to be announced every until March 2023.
