The inspection is part of a programme of youth offending service (YOS) inspections to report on the effectiveness of probation and youth offending service work with adults and children.

The YOS helps to prevent and divert children from anti social and offending behaviour and ensures children are kept safe and the risk to the public is minimised.

In the report, managers were praised for how they make staff and volunteers feel valued and the service was said to promote “a culture of caring both for its staff and for the children and families that they work with.”

Inspectors found that the YOS is a “well-resourced service that focuses on prevention, diversion and early intervention to support children and families.” And that “The YOS office base is excellent accommodation that offers a safe and calming environment for both staff and children.”

Cllr Elaine Forehead, Cabinet Member for Social Care commented “I am so pleased that the Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly YOS have achieved a “good” on their inspection report. This demonstrates the hard work that staff and volunteers put in to ensure the wellbeing of Caerphilly’s young people.

All of our staff members play a vital role in supporting children to live crime free lives – and I would like to thank each staff member for their contribution.”

Councillor Hadyn Trollope, Executive Member People and Social Services at Blaenau Gwent Council said:
‘This report highlights the high stand standard and quality work undertaken by the YOS service. I would like to thank the all of the staff involved and I am sure that this vital service will continue to deliver such a high quality service for children and their families’
