Caerphilly County Borough’s Mash for Cash £500 winner announced
Posted on : 23 Oct 2023
The latest winners of Caerphilly County Borough’s Mash for Cash campaign have been announced.
The Mash for Cash campaign was launched in March 2022, with an aim to increase food waste recycling participation and contribute to Welsh Government’s decarbonisation targets. And sees houses monitored with one food recycling participant chosen at random each month to win £500.
All Caerphilly County Borough residents are eligible to win the cash prize providing they put their food waste recycling caddy out for collection.
Caerphilly County Borough Council currently offer a weekly food waste collection service to all 80,000 households, where the food waste is taken for a process called Anaerobic Digestion, where it is turned into a source of renewable energy.
This month’s winners of the £500 cash prize were Mr and Mrs Sweetman from Wattsville.
Mr Sweetman said: “We’ve been recycling our food waste for as long as I can remember. It’s very simple to do, and when they can turn your food waste into something that can be used, like renewable energy, I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t do it.”
Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure & Green spaces said: “I would like to congratulate to Mr and Mrs Sweetman and all of our previous Mash for Cash winners.
“As westart to head towards the winter months, I hope that this cash prize is able to benefit some our residents. I encourage everyone to get involved to be in with a chance of winning the next cash prize.”
