Prestigious honour set for Local Olympians
Posted on : 15 Sep 2021
Caerphilly’s Cabinet unanimously approved a report to recommend that the Council admit the Honorary Freeman of the Borough to Lauren Price and Lauren Williams who were successful in achieving medals at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
The report follows on from the hugely successful ‘Heroes’ Tour’ of the medallists hometowns and the unveiling of the Sports Wall of Fame at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach.
The Leader Cllr. Philippa Marsden has joined together with opposition Leaders to nominate the athletes for the Freedom of the Borough in recognition of their inspirational and outstanding achievements.
Leader of Council, Cllr. Philippa Marsden said, “It is vital that we formally recognise the fantastic achievements of these women. They have competed at the highest level and brought home medals, has made everyone in Team Caerphilly burst with pride. That was clear to see when hundreds of people lined the streets to clap and cheer during the recent homecoming event. The Freedom is the highest honour we as an authority can bestow and the formal decision will be made following a presentation to full council in the coming weeks.”
