The Senedd Cymru Election will allow voters to elect 60 members to The Senedd (formerly the National Assembly for Wales). It will be the first election in which 16 and 17 year olds are allowed to vote in Wales, the largest extension of the franchise in Wales since 1969. Both changes were a result of the Senedd and Elections (Wales) Act 2020.
When you vote in a Senedd election you have two votes – one to elect your constituency member and one to elect your regional member. In the Caerphilly County Borough you will either voting for a Caerphilly, Islwyn or Merthyr and Rhymney constituency member and for regional members for South Wales East.
The Assembly comprises 60 members, where 40 AMs represent geographical constituencies and are elected by the first past the post method, and 20 AMs from five electoral regions using the D’Hondt method of proportional representation.
Elections for the Senedd are normally held every five years.
The next election takes place on Thursday 6 May 2021
