September’s Mash for Cash winner announced
September’s winner of CCBC’s Mash for Cash Campaign has been announced as Mrs Claire Jones from Penyrheol.

The campaign sees houses within the borough monitored with one food recycling participant chosen at random each month to win £500.

The initiative, which is supported by the business sector, was launched in March 2022 with the goal of increasing food waste recycling participation.

Residents of Caerphilly County Borough who place their food waste recycling caddy outside for collection are all eligible to win the cash prize.

The 80,000 households in Caerphilly County Borough are currently provided with a weekly food waste collection service by CCBC. The food waste is collected and taken to a process called anaerobic digestion, which turns it into renewable energy.

Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure & Green spaces said “Congratulations to Mrs Claire Jones the latest winner of the Mash for Cash food waste recycling initiative.

I would like to thank all those residents who are participating in the food waste recycling caddy service. The food waste recycling collection service is provided weekly and is converted into valuable products (compost and fertiliser) as well as contributing renewable energy to the National Grid. Food waste recycling is a key part of the Authority’s commitment to delivering a cleaner greener environment and helping Wales become the number 1 nation in recycling.”
