Transforming Towns: support to improve town centres

Town Centre Property Loans can be beneficial for both property owners and local businesses contributing to the vibrancy and growth of town centres.

Interest free loans are available for empty or underutilised Commercial Town Centre properties (Funded by the Welsh Government). The purpose of the loan is to improve the property for continued ownership, to sell, to rent or unlock a vacant or stalled site. Improvements can include making a residential property safe, warm and / or secure.

Loans are subject to an affordability assessment, a robust business plan and the Council applying the necessary legal charge. Admin charges may apply, further information can be given at the Expression of Interest stage.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration, and Climate Change said “We’re working hard to bring empty buildings back into beneficial use, so the Town Centre Property Loans fund is another avenue we want to explore with local businesses. As part of our town centre strategy, we have been converting vacant premises into pop up shops for low-cost rental. We need to explore all avenues to mitigate the pressures the high street has been facing for many years.”

Support and guidance will be provided to assist you in the process.
